The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources on Sunday summoned senior officials of the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) to explain ongoing delays in crucial transmission corridor upgrades.
Lawmakers raised acute concerns over regional transmission capacity, noting that cross-border imports and domestic solar projects cannot reach maximum dispatch without immediate substation modernizations in Bogura, Cumilla, and Chattogram.
"We cannot continue paying high capacity charges while clean, affordable power remains curtailed due to infrastructure bottlenecks," the committee chairperson remarked during the closed-door hearing.
The standing committee mandated that an inter-agency technical task force provide weekly progress logs to parliament, warning of administrative penalties if designated commissioning deadlines are breached.
