Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Acting Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Political Advisor to the Prime Minister, said the BNP keeps its promises and always operates transparently. The BNP does not deviate from its commitments. He made these remarks while speaking to journalists on Thursday (October 22) in the capital’s Shantinagar, following the distribution of awareness leaflets regarding dengue prevention—an initiative by the Dhaka South City Corporation. Ruhul Kabir Rizvi noted that the government led by Tarique Rahman is diligently implementing the promises made before the election. He mentioned that, according to economists, the distribution of 'Family Cards' and 'Farmers' Cards' could lead to a further 5 percent reduction in the national poverty rate this year. He highlighted this as an achievement of the government led by Tarique Rahman. Regarding the Sharadiya Durga Puja, the BNP Acting Secretary General remarked that this year’s festival was celebrated in a peaceful and festive atmosphere across the country. Thanks to the government’s vigilance, sincerity, and dedication, the Hindu community was able to observe the Puja in a peaceful environment. Rizvi added that the BNP reached out to every Puja *mandap* (pavilion) and engaged with the respective organizing committees; party members and activists worked day and night to ensure security. He recalled that in the past, the BNP was often the target of smear campaigns and falsehoods surrounding the Durga Puja. Attempts were made to portray the BNP as a militant political organization, with claims that followers of other religions would not be safe under a BNP-led government. Rizvi alleged that, surrounding this year’s Durga Puja, the Awami League and a certain clandestine political group engaged in such smear campaigns, noting that their behaviour and statements in various instances appeared remarkably similar. The BNP Acting Secretary General emphasized that a government that is pro-people and responsible can overcome any conspiracy to work for the public good. The peaceful and festive atmosphere in which this year’s Durga Puja was celebrated serves as a testament to this. Regarding the BNP’s initiative for dengue prevention, he stated that the distribution of leaflets could not be carried out over the past few days due to the Durga Puja celebrations. However, the activity has resumed today. The BNP will continue to distribute leaflets to help people stay protected from dengue and reduce the risk of infection. Present at the leaflet distribution event were BNP Joint Secretary General Advocate Abdus Salam Azad, Health Affairs Secretary Dr Rafiqul Islam, Organizing Secretary Saidul Haque Babul, and Volunteer Affairs Secretary Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu.
